Do I have to write my final exam?
Yes. If your course has a final exam, it is mandatory that you write it. There are no supplemental examination options.
Students are responsible for scheduling their own final exams and the last day that you can write your exam is on your course completion date.
When can I write my exam?
For self-paced courses, you can write your exam any day on or before your course completion date pending you have provided the proper notice. The last day that you can write your exam is on your course completion date.
For paced courses, you must write your exam during the assigned exam window.

Can I write my exam online?
Where do I write my exam?
Most Open Learning courses have a virtual final exam option that can be taken from home using an online proctoring service - ProctorU. Not all exams are available to take virtually and in that case, the exam must be taken in person at an approved testing centre.
We also provide the choice of in-person examinations for students in Canada for whom it may not be feasible or desirable to take advantage of the online proctoring option. The in-person options will require students to take the exam at one of the approved testing centres listed on the Canadian Invigilator Network (CIN).
ProctorU exams should be scheduled a min of 72 hours in advance and in person exams must be scheduled at least 3 weeks in advance by emailing the completed Statement of Presiding Supervisor form to [email protected].
Do I have to pay to write my exam?
Students are responsible for the fee charged by ProctorU or the testing centre to supervise their exam.
Where can I view my exam mark?
You can view your final exam mark and letter grade through your student account at mytru.tru.ca (not moodle).
- Go to https://mytru.tru.ca/
- Scroll down the page about halfway to the heading “Open Learning Services”
- Click the link for “Assignment marks”
- Then you will be prompted to log in
- If you have not logged in before, your student number is your Login Name and your Password will be your date of birth in the form of TRUddmmmyy
- Then from the dropdown menu, choose the semester, and click the CRN number to view a breakdown of assignment marks/final exam mark
If I fail the exam, can I rewrite it?
Rewrites of failed exams are not allowed. Students are permitted one exam attempt per course registration.
You can re-register in the course to write the exam again. Your original grade and your second grade appear on your transcript, but you receive credit only once.
There are no supplemental examination options for courses delivered by Open Learning.
Can I reschedule my exam?
For exams scheduled with ProctorU, you can reschedule your exam as long as it has been done in advance. To reschedule your exam, sign into your ProctorU account, click My Sessions and then click Reschedule.
For in person exams scheduled at a testing centre, you will need to contact your testing centre to inquire what their policies are for rescheduling your exam. If the testing centre allows students to reschedule exam appointments, you must also get permission from the TRU Exams Department, [email protected] in order to change your approved exam date.
The last day that you can write your exam is on your course completion date.

I require special arrangements to write my examination because of a disability. Who do I contact?
Contact the Accessibility Services Office as soon as possible.
Email: [email protected]
Phone: 250.828.5023 (Kamloops) or 1.888.828.6644 (toll-free in Canada)
You must be approved for exam accommodations through the TRU Accessibility Services department in order to receive exam accommodations for your TRU Open Learning exam. We do not accept exam accommodations from external instutions.
If I didn't schedule my exam by the course end date, what can I do?
If the course is eligible for an extension, request and pay for a course extension by using the Course Extension Request form, or re-register in the course.
You are allowed one extension per eligible course and cannot cancel your registration in or withdraw from a course that has been extended. Also, a course extension disqualifies the course for student loan purposes, regardless of your final grade.
How should I prepare to write a supervised exam?
You should complete your assignments in order and submit them to your Open Learning Faculty Member as you complete them (several weeks before the final examination). Normally, your course materials provide examination preparation advice, and you may borrow helpful materials through the TRU Library. Also check if your course materials include a practice exam. Please note that not all courses include a practice exam.
Contact your Open Learning Faculty Member for more advice.
I passed my exam but didn’t complete all of the assignments. Do I get a final grade?
If you passed your exam but did not submit all of your assignments, you receive your final grade approximately one month after the course completion deadline. Let your Open Learning Faculty Member know if you do not plan to submit all of your assignments. If you require more time and your course is eligible for a course extension, apply for an 18-week extension prior to the course completion deadline.
