Mexico Field School
Learn skills while giving back
Join the Trades Field School in Oaxaca, Mexico, in February and give families the gift of solar power.
What to expect
You’ll spend two weeks in Puerto Escondido, on the Emerald Coast of Oaxaca, installing solar panels, breakers, batteries and lights in the homes of impoverished families. Work days include breakfast at the hotel and lunch provided by the families you are helping or by the hotel.
You’ll meet local people from another culture, working in their homes and exploring a quiet area known for its beaches.
What to experience
Puerto Escondido is a laid-back Pacific port and tourist centre, with a population of 45,000. Described by the Lonely Planet as a water lover’s paradise, it is known for one of the best surfing beaches in the world, Playa Zicatela.
Restaurants serve seafood pulled fresh from the water the same day. Bananas, chocolate and coffee all grow in the area. You’ll find hotels, cafes, restaurants, craft shops, Internet cafes, corner stores, tour operators and scuba diving rentals. But what Puerto Escondido is best known for is its beaches. There are beaches for surfing, scuba diving, swimming and just soaking up the sun.
